      <image:title>Home - Welcome</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello, I’m Emily Manaen, founder of Haven Counseling and Consulting, PLLC, serving the Minneapolis and St. Paul areas. Most of us don’t have enough space to truly share our stories. We long to be deeply heard—We long for someone to listen—not just to our words, but to the deeper parts of us carrying joy, pain, hope, and struggle. We want to believe that healing is possible, even when some parts of us feel unsure. At Haven, I offer a space where all parts of you are welcome. The parts that feel strong, the parts that carry old wounds, the parts that have kept you moving forward, and even the ones that feel stuck or uncertain—all of them make sense. In therapy, we’ll slow down and get curious about your experience, creating space for healing and self-compassion. Therapy with me may feel like meeting with an old friend. We might share a laugh, sip some coffee, and talk deeply about what truly matters to you. I believe in the power of a strong therapeutic relationship—one where you feel seen, supported, and empowered. Together, we’ll explore your strengths, help you reconnect with your inner wisdom, and move toward the life you long for. If you’re ready to begin, I’d love to walk with you on this journey.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Talk Therapy - Talk Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Talk therapy is a type of therapy where we talk about what is going on in your life. The focus is on telling your story. We may talk about your past experiences, what is happening in your present day life and your hopes for the future. We can talk about anything that feels important to you or is troubling you. You may find that you know exactly what you’d like to discuss in therapy, that’s great! You may also feel uncertain; like you have an overall sense of feeling like something is wrong, but you struggle to define it. That’s also ok. Together, we can uncover the difficulties you experience and find ways for you to have relief and change.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Depression</image:title>
<image:caption>Do you sometimes feel like you carry around a heavy blanket? Or perhaps you feel out to sea without an anchor. Depression can feel like many things for different people. Many experience persistent sadness, little interest in enjoyable activities, low energy, irritability, trouble sleeping or difficulty concentrating. Depression is painful and can be very lonely. But there is help for depression. It can improve. Therapy can provide understanding, skills, and a space for you to experience healing from your depression.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Identity and Transitions</image:title>
<image:caption>Life is full of change. Leaving home, choosing a career, becoming a parent, changing jobs, ending or changing a relationship. All of these transitions can be stressful and bring up strong feelings and confusing thoughts. Sometimes these changes are tied to questions about identity. You may have questions like, who am I? Why am I here? What do I have to offer this world? It is natural and human to question who we are and where we have come from. Therapy can offer undivided attention and time for you to fully explore your identity and any transition you might be facing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Anxiety</image:title>
<image:caption>Many, if not most of us have experienced some degree of anxiety. We live in a world of high expectations. Sleep can feel impossible for some. Perhaps you experience racing or intrusive thoughts. Some struggle with social interactions. However you experience anxiety, I can help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, skills to cope, and ways to reduce your anxiety.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Relationship Conflict</image:title>
<image:caption>Relationships are an essential part of being human. We long to connect, to have good friends and close relationships. But for most of us, relationships can feel really tricky. Perhaps you experienced hurt, abuse or neglect as a child. As an adult you might experience relationships as unreliable or even abandoning. Perhaps relationships have felt difficult to grow or maintain. Maybe you have friends but still feel lonely. You might experience pain in your closest, most intimate relationship. These relationship experiences are very common, and there is also hope for improvement. However you experience relationships, therapy can help you develop stronger, more intimate connections with your loved ones.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Women’s Mental Health</image:title>
<image:caption>Are you a parent? Or perhaps you are longing to be a parent and experiencing the pain of infertility. The journey to become a parent can be isolating, difficult, and painful. And then when one becomes a parent, it is often STILL difficult. This journey may bring up memories of your own childhood. Grief can be a part of this experience accompanied pure exhaustion. Seeking out therapy to explore the journey of becoming and being a parent can really help.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Common Topics - Religious Trauma and Spirituality</image:title>
<image:caption>Religious and faith experiences can be complex. For some, religion is a positive experience and they find their faith is a source of strength. Others may have experienced pain, trauma or abuse in the context of a religious setting. Perhaps you have existential questions about meaning. Maybe at one point things seemed clear, but they no longer do. Or perhaps you want to explore how faith is a resource and strength. Wherever you are at with religion or faith, therapy can help you explore your experiences, work through the pain, and develop greater resiliency.</image:caption>

<image:title>Walk and Talk Therapy - Walk and Talk Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Instead of meeting in an office, we could do therapy as we walk. Walk and Talk therapy is oriented in somatic therapy. Many find movement helpful to reduce stress, and help with focus. Walking side- by- side allows some clients to feel more relaxed and comfortable when sharing. Being in nature is also a wonderful resource for many. This approach can be a great alternative to traditional therapy which is conducted in an office or over telehealth. Walk and Talk therapy requires an initial intake counseling session conducted in office or via online therapy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Emily Manaen - Emily Manaen, LICSW, MA</image:title>
<image:caption>I truly love being a therapist. I enjoy getting to know my clients and watching them grow. My clients describe me as compassionate, warm, calm, kind, and an easy-laugher. I have been working as a therapist since 2014 and in non-profit/ social service settings since 2010. My path to this work was winding. I initially studied International Peace Studies, because I am interested in helping people recover from traumatic experiences of war and conflict. Later, I received clinical training in social work, and began my practice as a therapist in Chicago. I have previously worked as a therapist and consultant for the Center for Victims of Torture, along with my work here at Haven. Through my studies and life experience, I understand that humans often struggle because of inequities in our environment. Racism, gender discrimination, and other forms of oppression affect our mental health. We do not live in a vacuum. We are deeply impacted by the injustice in the world. I am committed to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice in my work. I believe that therapy is an opportunity to recenter the narratives of BIPOC individuals and community and to challenge the narratives that have predominantly benefited identities of privilege. One of the things that led me to this work is that I am deeply curious about people. I love getting to know my clients’ stories, understanding what has caused them pain, and helping them recover from the trauma they have experienced. I pay close attention to my clients’ strengths and resiliencies. My clients find that I am an active, engaged, and collaborative therapist. On a personal note, I enjoy reading, being in nature, good music, and spending time with my family and dear friends. I lived in Chicago, IL for almost 10 years, and it holds a special place in my heart, but Minneapolis is home for me. I have also traveled and lived in East Africa, and I love to explore the world. I am a parent and also a partner. Most weekends you will find me spending time with my family, out in nature, or cuddled up with a book. If you’re looking for a Minnesota therapist, please do not hesitate to contact me. emilym@havencounselingmn.com or 612-217-0315</image:caption>
